Munster Junior League Division 3

 Killorglin 31   Waterford 9

The match was played in good conditions. Waterford started very strongly and applying a lot of pressure scored two penalties to lead by 6 points after 20 minutes. Killorglin registered their first score with a penalty through Luke O’Shea after 30 minutes to narrow the gap. Following a great break by Josh Morell, John Michael Cronin O’Reilly scored a try converted by Luke O’Shea to give the home team a 10 – 6 lead at half time. Shortly after half time Killorglin scored under the posts following quality line out ball, a great backs move with a strong break by Seamus Doyle who passed close to the line for Josh Morell to score and conversion by Luke O’Shea. Indiscipline then got the better of Killorglin, Timmy Lynch was shown yellow for illegal play in a maul, 7 minutes later George Evans was shown yellow for repeated team infractions. During Killorglin’s time in the bin Waterford scored a penalty to close the gap to 17 -9. Killorglin scored two great tries in the closing minutes. Firstly, Andrew O’Reilly gathered an untidy ball out of a scrum superbly to break up field. Seamus Doyle successfully evaded a last ditch tackle to sprint 40 metres to score and again successfully converted by Luke O’Shea. In the last play of the game Killorglin attacked very strongly to break the defensive line. Josh Morell burst through for the 10 metre line eluding the defense to touch down under the posts with final conversion success by Luke O’Shea. The final score of 31 – 9 delivered a bonus point victory for Killorglin and didn’t quite reflect what was a huge effort by both sides playing rugby to the best of their ability. The Killorglin performance again stepped up on previous efforts having to adapt to a very strong pack. The efforts by every member of the squad paid off and tribute must be paid to all 25 who through their work from warm up, training and continuous practice delivered the performance and result. No room for complacency at all though as another huge challenge ahead with away league match v Youghal next Sunday. Thanks to all the supporters and encourage all to travel to support the squad next week.
