On Saturday the Killorglin/Iveragh U16's made the journey to Fermoy for the first game of 2022. After a bright start KI were rewarded with the first try of the game. The try came from some great play from Blake Jackson and Cian Burke and great strength from Michael O'Sullivan to get over the line. The conversion drifted just wide to put the score at 5-0 to KI.
Fermoy kicked off and applied pressure, however Conall Cournane spotted a gap and from inside our own half ran the field to score under the posts and then added the conversion to stretch the lead to 12-0 to KI.
From the kick-off Fermoy pressed hard were rewarded with a scrum deep in Killorglin territory. They took advantage of their good field position and got over for a try off a scrum to leave the score 12 7 to the home side. Fermoy pressed hard before half time but the KI defence stood strong leaving the halftime score at 12-7 in favour of Killorglin/Iveragh.
Killorglin/Iveragh came out of the traps in the second half on a mission and added a well worked try to the tally early in the second half. After a few pick and goes Conall Cournane found a gap and touched down his second try of the game. Conall added a 3rd try to his tally a few minutes later from inside our own 22.
Weather conditions turned and hail belted down making it very difficult for both sides. Killorglin came out the better with 3 tries in the last 15 minutes. The tries came from Dan Kelliher, Alex Gary and Mikolaj Libera.
A great team performance which saw the game finish Killorglin/Iveragh 39 Fermoy 7.
