U16 Pan Munster Bowl
The U16s took the long and winding road to Skibbereen on Saturday for their penultimate group game in the Pan Munster Bowl. With a number of regular starters absent the Killorglin pack had an experimental look to it, and the coaches were concerned when the home team opened the scoring with a good burst down the left wing, but after that Killorglin moved up through the gears to dominate the rest of the game. With a strong wind the lineout was a bit of a lottery but Killorglin were on top in all other aspects. Strong carrying from our centres and back row kept Skibbereen on the back foot and the tries started coming. Joe Cronin Langham dealt well with the home kicking game and gave an exhibition of counter-attacking fullback play. Skibbereen did tack on another score with a nice flowing move from their own half, but by the break Killorglin were well ahead on a score line of 12-31.
The second half was more of the same, with some great rugby in particular from Adam Casey, Donncha Crowley, Killian Spillane, Ben O’Dwyer and Enda O’Shea. Dylan McDonough, Kevin O’Callaghan, Shane Moriarty, Thomas Hilliard and Joe Final all put in good shifts as Killorglin pressed on. Skibbereen registered another try with some quick opportunism from a Killorglin lineout mistake, but in truth the result was never in doubt. The U16s will now face Mallow in the final group game with the winner to qualify for the next phase of the competition.Killorglin scorers Donncha Crowley 3T, Adam Casey 3T, Joe Cronin Langham 2T, 3 con, Enda O’Shea 1T, Donnachadh O’Connor 1T, Colin Griffin 1 con.
