A slow start and some sloppy tackling gifted visitors Killarney a 0-10 lead within as many minutes in the U16s game last Saturday at Ballymalis and ultimately cost the result. When the home team finally decided to play they put together some decent rugby and had the better of the remaining game. The first Killorglin score came from a scrum turnover with no. 8 Adam Casey carrying hard and quick recycling to Donncha Crowley in the centre to touch down. 5-10 at half time. In the second half Killarney extended their lead with a good converted try but Killorglin worked their way down field with some strong carrying by the pack and then swung the ball from the left touchline across for Tom Garry to throw a long pass and put Eoghan Joy in in the right corner. Garry’s conversion left it game on at 17-12. Killorglin piled on the pressure and another fine scrum for Killorglin against the head made for an exciting finish as the home team worked up the field in search of the win, but it was not to be as a knock on led to Killarney taking possession and quickly kicking the ball dead to finish the game.
